Introduction To Shatter

Over the years, cannabis concentrates have become increasingly popular, with shatter being one of the most popular types. Shatter is produced by extracting CBD and THC from the flower, and it has become a big seller in recent years. This translucent concentrate gets its name from its fragile, glassy and eye-catching texture.

What’s The Difference

Shatter is a potent cannabis extract that has become very popular among users due to its strong THC content (60-80%). In addition to being more potent, shatter also has the advantage of being a quick and efficient way for cannabinoids to enter the bloodstream. Furthermore, the extract is easy to transport and has a more attractive cosmetic appearance. Shatter can have one of two different consistencies: it can be brittle and break like glass, or it can be slimy and stretchy like Laffy-Taffy. The extracts also vary in color from light golden amber to dark warm maple.

Common Usage

Dabbing is a quick and effective way to consume cannabis extracts like shatter. To dab, heat up the nail with a butane torch and then apply a small amount of shatter. The shatter will instantly vaporize and can be inhaled. Start with small amounts until you figure out your tolerance. You can also mix shatter with flower when packing a bowl, knuckle, or blunt.

Extraction Methods

As extract artists continue to advance their methods, the quality and price of shatter have increased. Butane hash oil (BHO) extraction is a great option for those looking for a high-quality product. This method involves passing a solvent through cannabis buds to remove cannabinoids, followed by purging to evaporate all the solvent. The total yield depends on the type of bud used and the level of experience with the procedure. Top shelf shards typically cost $35-$50 per gram.

Precursor Before Trying Yourself

This guide is for experienced cannabis users who want to learn how to make shatter. The process is similar to making other concentrates, but there are some notable differences. Please be advised that extracting cannabis should only be done by professionals in a safe and controlled environment. This requires the use of specialized equipment and trained personnel. So do your due diligence if you are doing this.

The Things You Will Need

To get started, you’ll need the following supplies:

1-2 ounces of cannabis

– 2 cans of butane

– Extraction tube

– Pyrex dish

– Double boiler

– Electrical range

– Vacuum purge kit

– Parchment paper

– Razor blades

Let’s Begin – The Procedure

Step 1. To get the most out of your cannabis, it’s important to grind it up and let it dry out a bit before purging. This will help you get a stronger yield. The power of the button will also influence the strength of your yield, so keep that in mind.

Step 2. To extract the THC from the cannabis, you’ll need to fill an extraction tube with ground cannabis. A good amount to use is 1 ounce per tube. It’s important to pack the tube neither too tightly nor too loosely; you want the butane to saturate the cannabis well.

Step 3.. When working with butane, take precautions and use it in a well-ventilated area as it is highly hazardous and flammable. For each extraction tube (1 oz), you will need one can of butane. To begin the extraction, hold the filtered end of the tube over the Pyrex dish and throw the butane through the end of the tube with the opening. Continue until the can is empty.Once the marijuana is soaked, it will start to drip into the dish. Let all the liquid drip into the Pyrex dish.

Step 4. Start by heating up your double boiler. Then, place the Pyrex dish on top. The heat will evaporate the butane from your hash oil.The process is finished when the hash oil has stopped bubbling.

Step 5. Scrape the concentrate onto a piece of parchment paper using a razor blade. Place the paper in a vacuum oven to remove the butane. Once this is complete, allow the product to cool and harden.

Now that you’ve made the DIY shatter, it’s time to give it a try. Start with a small amount; a little “dab” might be stronger than you think. And if the extract doesn’t come out perfect the first time, don’t worry. It’s a learning process. Even though making your own shatter can be rewarding, you may find it cheaper and simpler to buy it at the dispensary.

Storage

Store your shatter in a small, heat-resistant silicone case. If you don’t have one of these, you can wrap the shatter in parchment paper and keep it airtight. Always remember to store all cannabis concentrates in a cool, dark place.
